Real Madrid Secures Diomande in Club-Record Deal

Real Madrid has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande in a club-record deal. The transfer fee is reported to be €135m (£115.7m). This figure includes an initial payment of €125m with an additional €10m in add-ons, which would surpass the fee paid for Jude Bellingham in 2023, previously understood to be up to €134m including add-ons.

The 19-year-old winger, who joined the German side from Leganés last summer and featured for Côte d’Ivoire at the World Cup, becomes the most expensive African player in history. This transfer surpasses the £72m spent by Arsenal on Nicolas Pépé in 2019. Leganés is entitled to a 5% sell-on fee from the transfer, having previously sold Diomande to Leipzig for €20m (£17.4m) after he made 10 appearances for their first team.

Negotiations for Diomande lasted several weeks, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly withdrawing from the race. Diomande was seen arriving at Leipzig’s pre-season training camp in Austria on Wednesday.

Vinícius Júnior Contract Talks Continue

The impending arrival of Diomande is not expected to influence the situation regarding Vinícius Júnior. Real Madrid is reportedly confident in retaining the Brazil international and has offered an improved contract. Vinícius and his representatives, Roc Nation, held discussions with Madrid officials on Wednesday concerning a contract extension.

Reports from Spain indicate positive talks, and Vinícius is understood to be considering an enhanced deal closer to the €30m per season he had requested. Arsenal is reportedly prepared to offer more than £100m for the 26-year-old, whose current contract has less than a year remaining. Vinícius stated on Tuesday that Madrid’s new manager, José Mourinho, wants him to be “happy, cheerful and playing my football” following his return to pre-season training after the World Cup.

Arsenal Explores Other Attacking Options

Arsenal, who have agreed a £75m deal for Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle, is exploring alternative attacking options should Vinícius decide to renew his contract with Real Madrid. The club was previously linked with Morgan Rogers, who joined Chelsea for a British record fee of £117m last month.

Arsenal is also reportedly linked with PSG’s Bradley Barcola, who is valued at around £145m by the European champions and is also wanted by Liverpool. In other transfer news, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, held talks with Atlético Madrid regarding Julián Alvarez on Wednesday, with Arsenal hoping the 26-year-old Argentina forward could still be persuaded to join them.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is exploring a move for 18-year-old Paris St-Germain and Senegal winger Ibrahim Mbaye. Aston Villa has reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri, 24. Fulham is nearing the signing of Southampton and Northern Ireland midfielder Shea Charles, 22, who is valued at £30m. Trabzonspor is working to reunite Uruguay and Al-Hilal forward Darwin Nunez, 27, with his former Liverpool teammate, Egyptian 34-year-old forward Mohamed Salah, at the Turkish club. Aston Villa is also preparing for a new bid from Arsenal for England defender Ezri Konsa, 28, as they attempt to secure a new contract for him at Villa Park. Additionally, Real Madrid could make French midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni, 26, and Eduardo Camavinga, 23, available to fund a move for 30-year-old Spain midfielder Rodri from Manchester City. Hamburg is interested in bringing Belgian Leeds United defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, 27, back to the Bundesliga.
