Bayern Munich is preparing a formal contract extension for striker Harry Kane, aiming to secure his presence at the Allianz Arena until at least 2029. The decision to initiate these discussions follows the conclusion of the World Cup, with the club making it clear that Kane remains a central figure in their long-term ambitions.
According to reports, the new deal would maintain Kane’s current salary of approximately €25 million per year, positioning him as one of the club’s top earners without any planned wage reduction despite his age. The negotiations are expected to be led by sporting director Max Eberl and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, who was instrumental in bringing the England captain to Munich initially. Kane’s father, Pat, and brother, Charlie, will represent his interests during the talks.
Contract Talks and Player’s Intentions
The decision to pursue a contract extension comes amidst considerable interest from other clubs, including Barcelona and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, both of whom reportedly enquired about Kane’s availability. However, Kane has reportedly shown no interest in a move, preferring to focus on his legacy in Germany. He is said to have delayed discussions until after a demanding season and the World Cup to ensure his focus remained on his on-field performance, but has now indicated his readiness to sign a new deal.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern Munich CEO, confirmed the mutual interest in an extension, stating that “Both parties are very keen [to extend his contract].” He added that the club needs to ensure expectations align to find common ground. Dreesen mentioned that Kane was still in the USA and that discussions would commence upon his return, as previously arranged. Kane is currently on a family holiday in the Caribbean and is expected to join Vincent Kompany’s squad in early August, which is when the formal contract talks are anticipated to begin.
One of the key aspects of the upcoming negotiations will be the duration of the new contract. While Bayern is prepared to offer a deal until at least 2029, Kane reportedly has his sights set on playing at the highest level until the 2030 World Cup. This could lead to discussions about a longer contract with a potentially lower salary, or a shorter deal with a higher salary. Despite the potential complexities, both sides appear eager to finalise the agreement swiftly.

Evolving Role and Future Ambitions
An intriguing element of the upcoming negotiations is the potential evolution of Kane’s role within the team. As he approaches what could be the final years of his top-flight career, the 33-year-old striker is reportedly open to adopting a more creative, playmaking position. This adaptation is seen as a crucial part of his plan to extend his career at the highest level, particularly with the 2030 World Cup in mind.
Manager Vincent Kompany is reportedly enthusiastic about the prospect of a versatile frontline. Even with Kane extending his stay, the club has not ruled out the possibility of signing another elite striker in future transfer windows. Kompany’s vision involves implementing a fluid system that features two high-class attacking threats, which would allow Kane to drop deeper and utilise his passing range to influence the game.
For Kane, the pursuit of silverware remains a primary motivator. While media often highlight the allure of breaking Alan Shearer‘s Premier League goal record, Kane is reportedly settled in Bavaria and fully integrated into the club’s culture. His main objective is to add Bundesliga and Champions League titles to his achievements, prioritising team trophies over individual statistical milestones in England. Securing Kane’s contract will provide significant stability for the club as they prepare for the new campaign, allowing management to focus on further recruitment efforts with their focal point in attack secured for the foreseeable future.

Kane, who contributed to England finishing third at the FIFA World Cup 2026, has scored 146 goals in 147 appearances for Bayern since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. His current deal is set to expire at the end of the coming season. Bayern will kick off their campaign against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August, before hosting VfB Stuttgart in their Bundesliga opener six days later at the Allianz Arena.
