Indian cricketers have achieved notable advancements in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan making significant progress. Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old, has climbed to a career-best 48th position, while Kishan leads the T20I batting charts.

Sooryavanshi’s rise follows his performance in India’s 3-0 series sweep against Zimbabwe in Harare. He was named Player of the Series after accumulating 151 runs at an average of 50.33. This impressive showing led to a jump of 230 places in the T20I batting rankings, as updated by the ICC on Wednesday.

Kishan’s Record-Breaking Ascent

Ishan Kishan has secured the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings with 910 points. His career-best rating of 916 points was achieved after scoring 81 in the second match of the series against Zimbabwe. This rating places him as the third-highest rated T20I batter of all time, behind Abhishek Sharma (931 rating points) and England’s Dawid Malan (919).

Despite dropping to 910 points by the series’ conclusion, Kishan maintains a comfortable lead over Sahibzada Farhan, who is in second place with 848 points. Kishan’s career-best rating also surpasses those of other accomplished Indian players such as Suryakumar Yadav (912) and Virat Kohli (909).

Sooryavanshi currently holds 536 rating points, trailing his more experienced teammate Kishan. The strong performances from both players highlight a period of significant achievement for Indian white-ball cricketers.

Other Notable Movements in Rankings

Beyond Sooryavanshi and Kishan, other Indian players also saw positive movement in the rankings. Tilak Varma advanced two rungs to sixth place among T20I batters, and Shreyas Iyer moved up seven places to 24th. In the bowling category, Ravi Bishnoi made a substantial leap, climbing 31 spots to 41st in the T20I bowlers’ rankings after taking three wickets during the Zimbabwe series.

Zimbabwean players also experienced gains despite the series outcome. Ryan Burl rose six spots to equal 85th among T20I batters, and fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani moved up 10 rungs to 26th in the T20I bowlers’ rankings.

In the ODI rankings, Shubman Gill has returned to the No. 1 position among batters. This change occurred after New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell was absent from the recent series against the West Indies. Mitchell had held the top spot since January.

Further changes in the ODI rankings include Namibia spinner Bernard Scholtz, who climbed five places to seventh overall among bowlers. This rise followed his efforts during his side’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series against Nepal and the Netherlands in Utrecht.

In the Test rankings, Justin Greaves of the West Indies saw significant improvement. Following his performance in Trinidad during the first ICC World Test Championship fixture against Pakistan, he gained 21 places to reach 48th among Test bowlers and moved up eight rungs to ninth among all-rounders after completing five consecutive wicket maidens.

Greaves’ teammate, Jayden Seales, also made gains, moving up five slots to 24th among Test bowlers. Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas climbed nine spots to 17th in the same category. Additionally, Babar Azam improved by four rungs to 15th among Test batters after scoring his 32nd Test half-century in the second innings of the Test match.

The latest rankings update on Wednesday reflects a dynamic period for international cricket, with players across various formats achieving new career highs and significant movements.
